[Democratic Party of the United States] Obama and his wife led the presidential election ceremony to the 'Cruel of Enthusiasm'
Former U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama heated up the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the "Aseong" of the American progressive camp.
On the second day of the convention, the Obama couple, the most popular "asset" of the Democratic Party of America, wowed their party members with a message emphasizing unity and hope as they joined forces with Vice President Kamala Harris to win the presidential election.
Mrs. Michelle, who appeared on the podium with long braided hair and reminiscent of a female warrior, shouted "Do something" to win the presidential election, and delegates filling the United Center shouted the slogan and vowed victory.
In his speech in the context of finding hope in despair, he stressed that "hope is returning" to the U.S. Some delegates shed tears as if they were emotional.
Mrs Michel also harshly criticised former President Donald Trump, saying the election gives the country a "chance to defeat the demons of fear, division and hatred that have engulfed us."
Former President Obama also stirred up delegates in his political hometown of Chicago as the speaker representing the Democratic Party.
Taking the microphone after his wife, he raised his voice over Vice President Harris, saying, "Yes, she can."
Delegates reacted enthusiastically to the remarks, which changed "we" from "Yes, we can" to "she," which former President Obama used as a campaign slogan 16 years ago, with cheers.
"We live in an era of chaos and hatred. But the bond that brings us together remains," Obama said, stressing the need to fight as one.
The Obama couple's appearance, the highlight of the event, was said to have been enough for the once-divided Democratic Party to regroup and boost its fighting power over President Joe Biden's resignation from the presidential nomination.
The Washington Post (WP), a U.S. daily, said, "The Obamas have enthusiasticized Democrats with their sharp words and called for unity and action."
In particular, Mrs. Michelle's charismatic speech was well received.
"It was the most effective and powerful political speech I've ever heard. It was quite amazing," CNN's leading anchor Anderson Cooper said on the show.
The New York Times also praised her husband, saying, "Her husband is considered one of the best speakers in the party, but Mrs. Obama has her own rhetorical talent. Few speakers at the convention could communicate with the audience of thousands gathered at the United Center like her."
Meanwhile, at the convention, former President Trump received crossfire criticism from several speakers.
In particular, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer pointed out that former President Trump incites anti-Semitic notions.
"As the highest Jewish elected official in U.S. history, I hope my grandchildren and all my grandchildren will not be discriminated against because of who they are," he said. "But Trump is a person who spreads anti-Semitic stereotypes."
